No books, no scriptures, no science can ever imagine the glory of the Self that appears as man, the most glorious God that ever was, the only God that ever existed, exists, or ever will exist. I am to worship, therefore, none but myself. I worship my Self. ~ Swami Vivekananda.
If only our policymakers and educationalists knew the real meaning of these words, the world would have been different.
The fact that every country, every institution and every organization is focusing so hard to use the information-gathering brain of the humans just to profit from it rather than harnessing the energy and intellect of individuals to change the world for better, is hurting the overall rhythm and balance of our planet.
Real education focuses not on information, knowledge or exams but on overall development of the self – the real thinker and doer.
When I observed that there are universal similarities in the thinking pattern of the souls whose awareness, realization and progress in the realm of self discovery and societal life has been beyond the books, courses or teachers, I can see clearly why Life School is the most important place for all of us.
The two messengers of truth, whose sole purpose of life has been to educate people to reveal the light within their own soul – Swami Vivekanand and J. Krishnamurthi – sound exactly same on education, its meaning and significance
As Mr. Krishnamurthi said…
The ignorant man is not the unlearned, but he who does not know himself, and the learned man is stupid when he relies on books, on knowledge and on authority to give him understanding. Understanding comes only through self-knowledge, which is awareness of one’s total psychological process. Thus education, in the true sense, is the understanding of oneself, for it is within each one of us that the whole of existence is gathered.
You can read Mr. Krishnamurti’s complete article on education and the significance of life here.
We can only understand the meaning of our life by living it well, completely in unison with nature and people around us.
Awareness is the only word that we need to understand and learn during our entire life. This single word can make us free and happy.
One of the comments on Rishi Valley School (founded by Mr. Krishnanurti) Forum by one of its longtime teachers Mr. Harshad Parekh, establishes this very aptly…
Walking in a public park with awareness can be a great source of happiness. Flowers blooming, children running around and playing with innocent laughter, birds flying in the colorful evening sky. These are simple joys of living. But we have become too complicated and smart, going round and round in narrow circles around ‘me’, filling ourselves with unnecessary thoughts.
Our present education system needs a complete overhaul because the focus is not on awareness but on information. Knowing facts, getting good grades and landing with a job are given much more importance than actually kindling our imagination and acquiring knowledge, confidence & self-satisfaction which propel us to become inventive, create something beneficial to society and live well.
This feeling of entrepreneurial benevolence and altruism can only come when we become aware of ourselves, our true nature and our true spirit.
“The great aim of education is not knowledge but action,” said Herbert Spencer, English philosopher, biologist, anthropologist, & sociologist.
Right intent, right actions and sharing our achievements with world matter much more than exceptional knowledge or well laid out policies. Just ponder over this thought that if philosophers, scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs of yesteryears would have not acted upon their knowledge, thoughts and shared it with the world, we would still would have been living in the dark ages with much less progress.
At The Life School, we are just trying to spread the philosophy of real education by honest intent and right actions.
